Drumboe Commemorations

Every Spring since 1924 Republicans in Donegal and surrounding counties have commemorated three Kerry men and one Derry man who were executed by a Free State firing squad in Drumboe woods towards the end of the Civil War.
The 'Drumboe Martyrs', Charlie Daly, Daniel Enright, and Timothy O’Sullivan, all from Kerry, and Sean Larkin from Derry had come to Donegal to fight against the British state and defend Nationalists from attacks in the now partitioned six counties.

The Tir Chonaill Commemoration Committee have, on the 100th anniversary of the executions, made available their latest publication,'Drumboe Commemorations'

This book,as well as incorporating the story of the Martyrs, details how Republicans have organised Commemorative events each year without fail since the executions.

Included are many photographs, newspaper cuttings and reports of the Commemorative events from 1923 to the most recent time. The book also reprints in full the initial coverage of the executions from the 1923 Republican news sheet 'Eire' as well as reports of some colourful incidents and speeches from the commemorations down the years. A full list of Drumboe Commemoration speakers from 1924 - 2023 is included, these speakers often set the tone and direction for Republicans during the various periods.

As evidenced in the many photos thousands have attended the commemorations year on year, the Drumboe Martyrs have become an inspiration for generations of Republicans and the commemorations in themselves are testimony to the enduring nature of Republican struggle.

This publication is the collective work of the Tir Chonaill Commemoration Committee, acknowledgements to all members past and present.

All proceeds to the continuing work of the committee.
