Kevin Barry Memorial Hall has a unique history. Located in what has been called Dublin's revolutionary square, it has been a hub of Irish Republicanism for well over a century. Built in 1766, the decade in which Theobald Wolfe Tone was born, 44 Parnell Square was a centre of revolution during the Black and Tan terror, the Civil War, the pogroms in the North in 1922 and 1969. From Number 44 the uncensored voice of An Phoblacht was heard throughout the 1970s and '80s and since 1979 Sinn Féin has had its Ard Oifig here. Today it continues its historic Irish Republican role and this book tells its story.
